Greenbrier's Washington, Illinois, Wheel Facility Suffers Fire Damage

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.

Early Saturday morning January 31, 2009, a building fire caused extensive damage to the wheel facility in Washington, Illinois operated by Greenbrier Rail Services (GRS), a subsidiary of The Greenbrier Companies .

The cause of the fire has not been determined and no one was injured. The Company is fully insured for the fire.

Greenbrier continues to serve all of its customers by shifting work from the damaged facility to other locations within GRS' network. The Company expects no significant disruption in service for its customers.

The Company is sensitive to the impact of the fire on its workforce and the local community, and will communicate more information to the employees and local community on a timely basis.
