Joyce N. and William A. Furman as Trustees for the Furman Charitable Remainder Unitrust announced today the distribution of 375,000 shares of Greenbrier Companies' stock with an estimated value in excess of $12 million. The shares were irrevocably placed in Trust by the Furmans in 1994 and were distributed to the designated beneficiaries as of December 28, 2004, the termination date of the Trust. The shares are being distributed to 39 Northwest charities.
The gifts will provide significant help to the charities in fulfilling a wide range of missions, including Homeless Youth, and other Children's Services, Education, the Arts, Parks and Public Spaces, and Animal Welfare.
Joyce Furman, Trustee, stated, "It has been a wonderful experience to become familiar with so many dedicated people in the non-profit sector, and the worthy causes that they support here in the Northwest. Bill and I feel honored to have been able to make these gifts, and look forward to the good that will come from them."
